What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university qualified allied health professional, who specialises in delivery of exercise for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries. They are trained to provide health and physical activity education, advice and support and lifestyle modification with a strong focus on achieving behavioural change.
AEPs hold a four-year university degree and are the most qualified health professional to prescribe exercise for people with chronic disease. AEPs provide support for clients with conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, mental health problems, cancer, arthritis, pulmonary disease and more.
AEPs are eligible to register with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and WorkCover and are recognised by most private health insurers.
